Local Tip: Blair Atholl Watermill
This wonderful building can be found in the peaceful town of Blair Atholl. The beautiful working mill is driven by a huge, lade fed waterwheel and the resulting stone milled flour is used by the miller to produce their renowned bread, cakes and rolls. There has been a mill on this site since 1613 and it is the only working mill left from dozens which once worked this area. The mill was lovingly restored in 1977 and is now open for visitors to enjoy.
The mill is fed by the River Tilt which drives two pairs of French burr stones that are still used today to produce pinhead, oatmeal, wholemeal and bread flour. The flour and oatmeal are available to taste in the cafes wonderful home baking as well as being available to buy in the shop.
